Breakthrough For Online Gambling

Added: March 14, 2016

Fans of online casino action and online gambling have a new reason to celebrate. It seems that finally, after quite a bit of back and forth on both sides of the aisle so to speak, there is about to be what could be called a giant step forward for online casino action in the United States. As you are well aware, the question of legalizing online gambling sites and online casino action has been hotly debated in the U.S. Throw in the fact that the U.S. is in the midst of a major presidential election cycle and you can certainly understand why the idea of fully legalizing online casino action seems to swing back and forth like a pendulum.

That being said, there is actually a bit of good news for online gambling fans. It turns out that the state of Virginia is on the edge of legalizing at least one form of online gambling in the state. Yes, it is certainly true that the state of Virginia has not received much media attention with respect to online casino action over the years. Nevertheless, Virginia is about to take a giant leap forward.

Here’s what is going on. The Virginia General Assembly only just recently approved an online gambling bill by the name of SB 646 or the Fantasy Contests Act as it is named. What you will want to take note of here is that SB 646 is a bill that would legalize Daily Fantasy sports betting. Not complete online casino action to be sure, but most definitely a step in that direction.

Specifically this new Fantasy Contests Act actively embraces the concept of Daily Fantasy Sports Betting for residents of the state of Virginia. Naturally there are to be a set of rules and regulations once SB 646 is fully implemented. These rules are much as you expect from any legalized online gambling site; addressing such issues as online casino players are over age 18, that online gambling site players funds are clearly separated and kept apart from the daily fantasy sports betting site’s operating funds, that sort of thing.

That being said, one important fact to be aware of with SB 646 is that this daily fantasy sports betting authorization law clearly identifies daily fantasy sports betting as a game of skill. That classification is clearly against those that wish to state that daily fantasy sports betting is just another form of online gambling. It will be quite interesting to see what effect the action in the state of Virginia has on other states around the country.
